About IAT
The International Association of Trichologists (IAT) was established in 1974 with a clear mission: to provide comprehensive, science-based education in the field of hair and scalp health. At a time when trichology was still a little-known discipline, IAT set out to raise professional standards and create a unified body of knowledge for those passionate about understanding and treating hair-related concerns.
Under the leadership of David Salinger, a pioneer in the field, the IAT developed its foundational trichology program in collaboration with medical experts at the University of Southern California during 1974–1975. The result was a robust, two-year educational course that combined medical insight with practical training — the first of its kind. Today, the program continues to evolve with updated modules, lectures, and clinical resources, ensuring it remains at the forefront of trichological education.

The mission of IAT is to support and educate professionals who are committed to diagnosing and treating hair and scalp disorders. Through its certification program, global seminars, and professional network, IAT helps trichologists gain the knowledge and tools to support their clients with confidence and integrity.
David Salinger remains the Director of the International Association of Trichologists and is widely regarded as one of the leading figures in the development of modern trichology. His dedication to the science and education behind healthy hair has helped shape the careers of hundreds of certified trichologists around the world.
